The Vienna Biocenter (VBC) is located in the 3rd district and is one of the leading locations for life sciences in the Central European Region. The campus consists of several biomedical and life sciences research facilities. Biotech companies, basic research institutes and the university of applied sciences have settled since its founding in 1988.
Currently, more than 1.400 scientists are working and 700 students are studying on campus. And the area of the VBC continues to grow – within the next couple of years it will be expanded by 40 000 square meters. Austria and the City of Vienna will invest 52 million Euro in the VBC with a focus on the extension of shared scientific infrastructure.
